Sarah Huckabee Sanders leaving role as Trump’s press secretary

One big one came out in Robert Mueller's report, when she told reporters she'd heard from "countless" FBI agents who were happy that Trump fired FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.

Her colleagues often compared their relationship to Trump's bond with Hicks, noting that while Sanders wasn't considered a family member like Hicks was, she was the next closest thing.

Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, has served in the White House since the beginning of Mr. Trump's presidency, taking over for Sean Spicer when he left that role.

Trump acknowledged that tension in a May 2017 tweet: "As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with ideal accuracy!"

HuffPo's White House reporter Jennifer Bendery had maybe the most biting, roast-y slam. She began giving increasingly infrequent press briefings in 2018 after President Trump tweeted that he told her "not to bother" with reporters anymore.

Sanders' departure comes on the heels of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, which said she lied to reporters in 2017 about the circumstances surrounding James Comey's ouster as Federal Bureau of Investigation director. She later corrected the error in a tweet.

President Donald Trump had announced Sanders' departure just a few minutes earlier in a tweet.

Trump said he liked the idea. Sanders said she didn't know anything about the repayment until Giuliani disclosed it. "I loved every minute".

There hasn't even been a press briefing since March.

One of Donald Trump's longest lasting liars is finally leaving. In recent months, however, Sanders made herself less accessible to the press.

"This has been an honor of a lifetime and an opportunity of a lifetime", Sanders said from the White House Thursday.

In the months afterward, she was asked to leave a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, because of her association with the Trump administration. Do not invite her on to Saturday Night Live.

"The most important job I'll ever have is being a mom to my kids and it's time for us to go home", she added.
