"The player will sign a contract with his new club for the next five seasons, through to June 30, 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros", Barca said in a statement.

The World Cup victor, 28, has signed a five-year deal with the Spanish giants after they activated the £107m clause in his deal with Atleti.

Atletico Madrid's World Cup victor Antoine Griezmann is nearing a transfer to Barcelona, according to reports on Thursday in his native France and in Spain.

It took a while to get there but finally Barcelona have announced that they've signed Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, agreeing to pay the €120 million release clause that the player's contract dropped down to on July 1st.

It's anticipated the representatives are paying the €120m clause to release Griezmann from his contract.

Barca, who reportedly plan to present Griezmann at Camp Nou on Sunday, have yet to respond to Atletico's claims.

Antoine Griezmann signed for Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2014.

"The time has come to accept the challenge of a new destination".

"I'll defend the Barca colours with all my determination and commitment".

"With his arrival at Barcelona, the Frenchman takes another step forward in his career with the goal of consolidating his place as one of the best players in the world", read a statement on the club website.

Do you think Griezmann will be a success at Barcelona now that his move has been confirmed?

Griezmann had been linked to Barcelona in recent transfer windows.

He finished top scorer at Euro 2016 when France were beaten in the final on home soil by Portugal before helping to guide his team to World Cup triumph in Russian Federation a year ago.
