House judiciary votes to subpoena 12 linked to Russian Federation probe

Trump said in a tweet on Wednesday. "How many bites at the apple do they get more working on Border Loopholes and Asylum", Trump wrote.

Among others targeted in the list of subpoenas authorized by the Judiciary Committee on Thursday were these former Trump associates: Michael Flynn, who was national security adviser; John Kelly, who was White House chief of staff; and Corey Lewandowski, who was campaign manager.

Cohen is now serving a three year prison sentence in part for the hush-money payments, which prosecutors said amounts to a campaign finance violation.

It also includes former White House deputy chief of staff for legislative affairs Rick Dearborn, Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt, former White House aide Rob Porter, lawyer Keith Davidson, Dylan Howard, who oversees the National Enquirer, as well as its publisher David Pecker.

"This committee got rolled, let's admit it", Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., the panel's top Republican, complained, The Hill reported.

"Today's subpoena binge is an effort to change the narrative", said Mr Collins.

The Democrat-led committee said it intends to continue its investigation despite the completion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Mueller said he could not exonerate Trump on obstruction and indicated in a May news conference that it was up to Congress to decide what to do with his findings.

And it comes less than a week before Mueller testifies before the committee about his report, a televised event that Democrats hope will better inform the public about the details in the 448-page document that is thick with legal analysis.

He said to win the competition for the future against China or anyone else, America must sharpen its innovative edge and unite the economic might of democracies around the world to counter abusive economic practices.

Other Republicans used the meeting to vent about the strict constraints that members are poised to face during next week's hearing with Mueller.

"Over the past several months we have held hearings and sent letters to the agencies of jurisdiction regarding a series of catastrophic and inhumane immigration policies", Nadler said.

"I have been elected just like anyone else here", she said, speculating that she'd be one of the members cut out.

New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a member of the panel, said before the meeting that he expects to discuss "what the team strategy is going to be as we begin an intensive phase of preparation".

Biden also strongly criticised President Donald Trump's erratic policies, saying failure to uphold basic democratic principles have surrendered America's position in the world, undermined its democratic alliances, weakened its ability to mobilise others to meet these challenges, and threatened its security and future. There was renewed outrage in recent weeks after squalid conditions were reported at border facilities where scores of children are detained well beyond the 72-hour limit by which they are to be transferred to more suitable facilities.
